About Alyssa King

Alyssa King is a Toronto-based contemporary artist whose vibrant, layered works are designed to energize spaces and inspire those who encounter them. With a background in graphic design and a successful career in advertising, Alyssa developed a strong foundation in visual communication before shifting her focus to a more independent and expressive art practice.

Her signature use of recycled cardboard began as a practical choice, an accessible surface for practicing spray painting. Over time, she grew captivated by its texture, versatility, and humble, utilitarian nature. What began as a simple test material evolved into a key part of her process. She now builds up her canvases with layered cardboard, transforming an everyday object into richly dimensional surfaces that carry an element of surprise and tactile beauty.

Working with spray paint, acrylics, and mixed media, Alyssa draws inspiration from artists like Banksy, Andy Warhol, and Jean-Michel Basquiat. Her work celebrates bold expression, texture, and light, infusing spaces with a sense of vitality, optimism, and emotional depth. Each piece is created with the intention of shifting energy, elevating the atmosphere, and encouraging viewers to feel something meaningful.

Over the past five years, Alyssa has exhibited at the Toronto Artist Project, one of Canada’s leading contemporary art fairs, and has participated in multiple group exhibitions and artist residencies. Through her evolving body of work, she continues to explore the power of transformation, using ordinary materials to create art that connects, uplifts, and inspires.
