Gallery walls never go out of style

One thing that use to drive me crazy was attempting to create the perfect “gallery wall” of art.

Gallery walls are timeless, “never goes out of style” type decor with the opportunity to switch up the feeling and vibe whenever you want.

Well, all I can say is I’ve finally figured out the formula for a perfect gallery wall.

Start Here

Measure out the amount of space you want your gallery wall to fill

  • Tape off a space on the floor the size you’re looking to fill on your wall

  • Lay out all your pieces within that area. Play around with all the art placement until you have the perfect combo

  • Don’t overcrowd, keep at least a 3” space between each piece

For a pulled-together look create a cohesive colour palette where each piece draws from one another. All glossy black frames with black and white photography or a burst of one colour in each artwork. Connect the items for cohesion, bring in colours used throughout the textiles in your room and other decor.

Look to add unique unframed, pieces that have meaning to you!

Take a picture of your layout and then start implementing it on your wall. For ease with rentals, invest in command sticker hangers - a go-to when trying to hang things quickly. Always follow their hanging guidelines and use the optimal weight for each piece. With heavier items enlist the help of a hammer and nail.

Bonus Points

  • Start with a large statement piece - Something like this: Ambition Artwork

  • Mix verticals, circles, textures, and horizontals, as well as pairing pieces so that each area of the wall has its own vibe

  • Not everything has to match, mix vintage wood frames with macramé and shiny gold

  • Float mount (https://www.levelframes.com/blog/ways-to-float-your-artwork) anything nostalgic to add instant emphasis

  • No one said you have to have frames ;)

  • Make it personal by adding pieces you may not normally hang on the wall. Objects from your past, textiles or children’s work

Make a statement by doing your whole wall “gallery style”

Let me know how it goes. If you need any other suggestions for your wall or want a custom piece to be your “statement starter” let me know.
